Rest in Power Dr. Francis and Thank You For Teaching Me To Shut The Blinds At Night 🪟 ✨

Hello, Star Players,
Recently, the Xavier University of Louisiana community—and the world—lost a titan. In the wake of Dr. Norman C. Francis’s passing, I’ve found myself reflecting deeply on the years I spent under his leadership as a student from 2008 to 2012.
While we often referred to the "NCF building" with the casual nature of busy students, looking back now gives me pause. Dr. Francis wasn't just a university president; he was a blueprint for a life well-lived. As we mourn a leader who felt like a grandfather to us all, I want to share three lessons from his journey that continue to fuel my mission at Celestial Content Creations.
1. Bloom Where You Are Planted
Dr. Francis stood side-by-side with U.S. Presidents and met with the Pope, yet he remained fiercely "loyal to the soil" in New Orleans. As someone who has moved frequently in my adult life, this is especially convicting. He proved that you don’t have to chase "bigger" stages to be world-class. Greatness is great wherever it lands. Whether you are in a boardroom in Houston or a classroom in New Orleans, your impact is determined by your dedication, not just your zip code.
2. The Excellence is in the Details
I’ll never forget a campus assembly where he urged those of us living in the Living Learning Center (LLC) to shut our blinds at night. He joked that inconsistent shutters looked like "the projects" to people driving by on the interstate.
At the time, we laughed. But today, I see the weight of that lesson. He wasn't just talking about housekeeping; he was teaching us situational awareness and collective excellence. He wanted us to understand that we represented something larger than ourselves. To this day, when the sun goes down, I shut my blinds as a quiet homage to the standard of excellence he instilled in us.
3. Dedication Knows No Deadline
Dr. Francis’s impact spanned from his days as a student to the very end of his life. Seeing a bronze statue, a building, and a parkway named in his honor is a powerful reminder of what a "cemented legacy" looks like. It reminds me of why I founded CCC: to create something that outlives me. He taught us that servant leadership isn't a phase; it’s a lifelong commitment that echoes for generations.
To my fellow Xavierites: my heart is with you as we grieve this monumental loss. Let’s honor his memory by continuing to ascend with the confidence he spent his life building in us.
